Synopsis "I will wait for you. No matter how long.: Surviving teenage bereavement."
Is this book an example of so-called "misery lit"? No, not really. Sally was 17 when her parents died and five years later she would never claim that she has "got over" the death of her parents. Her book is about she came to terms with death and describes how she used both external and internal survival strategies to overcome the problems she faced. There is much that is both happy and uplifting in what she has written but her book isn't primarily a story that chronicles the triumph of good versus evil. It is far more than that. Sally's parents were secular scientists and proud of it and yet the powerful influence they exerted from "beyond the grave" shines like a beacon throughout the grieving process. Another intriguing feature of the book are the strong characters - both good and evil - that are described in such poignant detail by Sally and the amusing stories she shares with the reader about the twin worlds of athletics and life modelling. Truly this is a book that will make you laugh and cry, or cheer and boo, in equal measures!
