Synopsis "Ict in Higher Education in the Mena Region"
In the last decade, e-learning and web-based learning expanded rapidly across more than half of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries. The aim was to upgrade the educational system and to achieve international standards. Many countries in the region began rethinking their systems of education and their curricula. This study centres on Tunisia as an illustrative case for the MENA region. Tunisia has put much effort into improving its education sector. This study introduces and discusses teaching with modern technology as a novel method in the MENA region, with Tunisia as a case study. The aim of this work is to investigate the current situation with respect to this new method of education and to present a general overview of the development of information and communications technology (ICT) in the sector of tertiary education in the MENA countries. The case study of Tunisian universities is undertaken to establish the extent to which this new trend in the use of educational technology has so far been successful.
