The book, originally published in 1985, surveys the whole field of pastoral care in schools at the time. It discusses the aims, methods and implementation of a successful pastoral care system. It reviews relevant theories and research work but throughout the emphasis is on practical matters, on helping teachers work out intelligently for themselves how they might improve their performance in this field.
