Die vorliegende Publikation geht der Frage nach dem Bedeutungsbeitrag der Intonation in den Intonationssprachen Deutsch und Italienisch nach. Im Mittelpunkt stehen das Deutsche aus Freiburg und das Italienische aus Bergamo. Diese beiden Varietaten unterscheiden sich vom entsprechenden Standard durch die massive Verwendung einer nuklear steigend-fallenden Kontur, die als das intonatorische Merkmal von Sprechern dieser Varietaten gilt. Diese Beobachtung dient als Ausgangspunkt fur eine gesprachsanalytisch ausgerichtete Untersuchung der Funktionen der Intonation in Unterhaltungsgesprachen.
