Synopsis "Joseph Abbott Sanborn: Express Agent in Salt Lake"
Joseph Sanborn was born in New Hampshire, 1851, where he built carriage's for his uncle and helped setup a dealership in San Francisco, 1880, until his uncle closed shop. He then became a Pacific Express agent in San Francisco, 1886, and was transferred to Salt Lake City where he married one of Brigham Young's daughters. He carried an 1877 Colt Thunderer under his arm and was later assigned to Seattle and Portland, until health issue's made him retire from the express business and return to his wife's home town where he became a dispatcher for the Bamberger Electric RR until his death at his desk in 1929.
