Julian Van Hauson is a poet with a very individual voice, whose work stands out amongst that of his contemporaries as being something new and different... Julian's poems engage the reader through their intimacy, their sensitivity and depth of feeling, and their courage in addressing the 'big themes' of life, that are sometimes neglected in contemporary writing. The often startling use of image and symbol are characteristic of Julian's work, as are the use of strong speech rhythms; and whilst reaching for the heart, some poems can surprise the reader by their almost surreal character. The human condition and the fantastical world of the psyche blend uncannily. This selection of poems is drawn from Julian's much longer volume called simply POEMS, and represents his own selection of what he believes to be his most characteristic work.
