È molto interessante la tipologia del personaggio femminile che Verga dà a "La Lupa": una tipologia femminile molto diversa dagli altri personaggi femminili in altre novelle del Verga. È una donna quasi stregonesca e demoniaca con un'alta voracità sessuale: la protagonista infatti arriva ad adescare un giovanotto, che riesce a convincere a sposare la figlia solo per poterlo avere in casa con sé e poterlo sedurre in ogni momento. Il protagonista, esasperato dalle attenzioni della donna e dalla volontà di essere fedele alla moglie, arriverà a uccidere la donna.
