Henri Désiré Landru, né le 12 avril 1869 à Paris (19e arrondissement) et mort le 25 février 1922 à Versailles, est un célèbre tueur en série et criminel français. Il fut surnommé le Barbe-Bleue de Gambais . En 1919, le procès de Landru, ce nouveau Barbe-Bleue qui brûlait dans sa cuisinière les cadavres de ses maîtresses, connut un énorme retentissement. Cependant, au-delà de ses forfaits, dont la chronique se fit si largement l'écho, qui était le célèbre criminel ? Cet homme cultivé, très soucieux de sa famille, inventeur talentueux mais escroc sans envergure, qui étonna ses avocats et ses juges par son esprit et son sangfroid, reste bien difficile à cerner... le romancier et dramaturge Arthur Bernède (Belphégor, Judex, Vidocq...) s'est saisi de cette affaire pour en faire un roman captivant où il nous livre sa propre version des faits.
