Synopsis "Living in God's Kingdom: Here and Now"
In Jesus' earthly ministry he preached the good news of God's kingdom. He taught his disciples to pray to God, "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." He made the Two Great Commandments the foundation of this kingdom: love of God and love of neighbor, and then added love for enemy. When some Pharisees asked Jesus when God's kingdom is coming, he replied, "God's kingdom isn't coming with signs that are easily notice. God's kingdom is already among you." That's the good news. God's kingdom on earth exists here and now for all who want to live in it. For those that do, it's an opportunity of a lifetime. How to do so is the focus of this book. As a guidance for spiritual life, the book explores Jesus' prayer life, our own individual prayer life, and worshipping together. On love in action, the book reviews Jesus' teachings on love, the importance of acceptance of other persons, forgiveness, how to love our neighbors and our enemies. The book also examines practical applications of mercy, justice, and peacemaking. The author, Howard W. Hallman, is a United Methodist layman who has had a career in public service. He has been a life-long advocate of peace and justice.
