Synopsis "Low Deliveries in Health Centers of a Resource Poor Country, Uganda"

Under-Utilized skilled attendance services at child birth in the near by Health Centers in Kabarole district Uganda.Low H/Center deliveries; Globally 56% of women deliver with a skilled attendant however; the rate is extremely lower in most African countries. Skilled attendance at delivery is a key indicator to measure the MDG goal to improve maternal health. While skilled attendance is nearly universal in Europe at 99.1%, in Africa the rate has only been rising by 0.2% per year for the past decade. At this rate, by the year 2015, the average skilled attendance in Africa will still be less than 50% implying that attaining MDG goal 5 by 2015 might remain a dream. This book is based on investigation of factors for low institutional deliveries in a resource poor country Uganda. It contributes invaluable information on health systems and community based factors that deter pregnant mothers from delivering in nearby health centers. Health workers perceptions and understanding of maternal health indicators, availability of adequate infrastructure and various social economic factors impact a lot on mother’s decision on a place of delivery. This book is designed to benefit a wide range of PHC and R/Health planners, hospital administrators, policy makers and researchers especially in developing countries.
