Il s'agit d'un manuel visuel sur la manière de réaliser une échographie cardiaque pour l'évaluation cardiovasculaire des chiens et des félins domestiques en position debout. De nombreux patients référés ou présentés pour une évaluation cardiovasculaire, respiratoire, pré-anesthésique ou d'urgence nécessitent une évaluation cardiaque par échographie transthoracique qui est traditionnellement réalisée en décubitus latéral droit et gauche. Cette position, bien que plus confortable pour tenir le patient et permettant d'obtenir de très bonnes vues cardiologiques, implique dans de nombreux cas un stress supplémentaire pour le patient. Une telle situation chez les patients présentant un compromis ventriculaire et/ou hémodynamique peut signifier une aggravation de leur état, conduisant souvent au décès de l'individu. Il est donc fortement conseillé de reporter l'évaluation dans l'intérêt de la sécurité du patient.
