Synopsis "marriages in rockingham county, virginia, from 1778 to 1816. taken from the marriage bonds [old tenth legion marriages]"
The Old Tenth Legion was originally part of the far-flung District of Augusta and embraced the present counties of Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Page. The records in this book, though styled Old Tenth Legion marriages, are predominantly of Rockingham County, and include the area of Page County, erected from Rockingham and Shenandoah in 1831. The marriages derive chiefly from marriage bonds on deposit in the Clerk's Office in Rockingham County, but a fair number derive from ministers' returns, and some few are taken from Wayland's History of Rockingham County.
