Mikah the baby meerkat gets separated from his family by a stampeding elephant. He finds Tilly the baby warthog who is also lost and they become friends. They meet some young monkeys and share danger and adventures including a bite by a puff adder, a hungry lion, a torrid river and the strange effects of fermented marula fruit. They struggle to find food and shelter encountering dassies who seem very cross and need big discussions to reach a decision. They discover a strange animal called a sloth and face the most frightening creatures of all - hoomans who have big bang sticks.
