Synopsis "Mississippi Court Records, 1799-1835"
J. Estelle Stewart King was a prolific writer and compiler of genealogical material and books in the 1930s. Though many of her published works covered material in the states of Kentucky and Virginia, her focus was generally on areas where published information was cursory or scarce. This present offering on Mississippi is such a work. Mississippi became a state in 1817, consisting of what were once the territories of Georgia and Alabama. This book, which was originally published in 1936, consists of abstracts of court and other miscellaneous records from the early Mississippi counties of Adams, Amite, Claiborne, Hinds, Warren, and Yalobusha. With the exception of Claiborne County, which produced no offspring, these counties were the parent counties, in whole or part, of what is now Copiah, Franklin, Greene, Grenada, Lincoln, Rankin and Wilkinson counties. At the end of this work an index has been provided.
