He is a former Mayor of a Michigan City who resigned in frustration when everyone including his wife believed he perpetrated a sexual assault. When he wife filed for divorce Bart realized their marriage had died many years ago. Knowing that he had to leave his hometown for his own sanity Bart accepts a job with FEMA. His assignment is in Mississippi where he coordinates emergency housing following a devastating hurricane.She is an attractive mother of an infant working third shift in the largest meat processing plant or slaughterhouse in the south. Each night she leaves her baby at the local store for the owner to watch. She doesn't look like the other employees and presents herself as an educated and worldly woman. Because she is a victim of the hurricane Bart provides her with housing. Because she is a misfit she makes Bart Curious.She looks to be close to 40 years old with a baby less than a year. Bart finds information in her destroyed apartment that leads him to believe she is using an alias. The more he focuses on her the more he is attracted to her. He wants to help but is fearful he will drive the skittish woman away. In searching for more information on her he uncovers something that puts her life at risk and leads to her baby being kidnapped. Teaming up they go in search of her baby while trying to avoid being victims themselves. When Bart learns her whole life story he has to make a decision that will forever change his life.The story takes place in the south and has many memorable characters. Love, mystery and adventure abound in this book of personal redemption.
