Mitochondrien sind intrazelluläre Organellen, die eine wichtige Rolle in den Zellen spielen, indem sie Nährstoffe verstoffwechseln und die "Energiewährung" Adenosintriphosphat (ATP) produzieren und für verschiedene Prozesse verantwortlich sind.Eine mitochondriale Dysfunktion ist definiert als die Unfähigkeit der Mitochondrien, die ATP-Synthese aufrechtzuerhalten, um die zellulären Anforderungen zu erfüllen.
