Synopsis "Murder in the Deep Rough: A Zach Roper Mystery"
Retired Seattle PD detective Zach Roper is, at age 50, new to the professional golf Champions Tour, but no stranger to crime. He's pursuing his boyhood dream of pro stardom with single-minded devotion but limited success when a body turns up deep in the piney rough on treacherous number four of the Iron Ridge Country Club Black Course in the north woods of Minnesota. Not just any old body, either, but the body of the part owner of the financially shaky operation. Is it natural causes? The local Sheriff thinks so, but Zach doesn't. He wants to concentrate on golf. This may be his last chance to make it as a pro. If he doesn't make the cut it could be the end of his new career. But he also wants to see justice done, and he doesn't think the local law is able, or willing, to do the job. Can he do both? If he spreads himself too thin he may accomplish neither. The golf action comes hot and heavy while Zach teams up with a green, but game, Deputy Sheriff on the side to investigate the case. And a complicated case it is, involving sex, embezzlement, fraud, and murder for hire. The hired hit men are easy enough to catch, but who's behind them? The list of suspects is long, and all of them have good reasons to want the victim dead. But which one is it? Or is there more than one? Or is it someone who's not even on the list? Zach needs to draw not only on his experience as a detective, but also his experience as a golfer to have any chance of solving this one. In the end it all comes down to a game of golf. The key to the case lies not far from where the body was found, on the nasty, demanding fourth hole of Iron Ridge Black. Sex, murder, and golf... a volatile combination, and they are all part of Murder in the Deep Rough.
