Synopsis "Naranjo Saga"
The Naranjo Saga: Orange Man, Pumpkin Mountain, and Pueblo Traitor explode in rich drama and death defying survival. In the early 1600s when the first Black slave, Mateo Naranjo, escapes the cruelty of his Spanish Masters, he sets forth a rich dynasty that lasts to this day in the American Southwest. The Naranjo Saga highlights the three pueblo revolts of 1599 OM, 1680 PM, and 1696 PT. After a TV news interview in Santa Fé New Mexico, Candelario offhandedly learned of the Naranjo beginnings. After years of research he then crafted a beautiful American story virtually forgotten in the fabric of our history. When the Spanish first invaded than settled along the Rio Grand Valley, Orange Man follows the life and death struggles of Mateo Naranjo. When Don Juan de Oñate led his colonization train up the Mother River Valley, he did not realize that he would miserably fail, but the only Black slave in his charge would gloriously succeed. Mateo learned many cruel and critical lessons from the Spanish, especially their destruction of Ácoma during the 1st Pueblo Revolt. In Pumpkin Mountain, Domingo Naranjo joins forces with the great Pueblo medicine man, Poe P'in. Seeing the Pueblans on the brink of cultural and religious annihilation, the natives rise up and for the one and only time in American history actually expel a European invading force, killing most Spaniards along the way in the inferno of the 2nd Pueblo Revolt. In Pueblo Traitor, Josephillo Naranjo turns against his family and native brethren. This mulatto aids the infamous Don Diego de Vargas to squash the 3rd pueblo revolt, forever cementing the White men and women a new home in the American Southwest.
