Odontogene Tumoren sind eine heterogene Gruppe von Läsionen mit unterschiedlichem klinischen Verhalten und unterschiedlichen histopathologischen Typen, die von hamartomatösen Läsionen bis hin zu Malignität reichen. Diese Tumore entstehen in den Geweben, aus denen unsere Zähne bestehen, sie kommen nur im Kiefer vor und sind somit fast ausschlie lich in der Zahnmedizin anzutreffen. Nach der Klassifikation werden die gutartigen odontogenen Tumoren wie folgt eingeteilt: Epithelial, mesenchymal (ektomesenchymal) oder gemischt, je nachdem, welcher Bestandteil des Zahnkeims das Neoplasma hervorbringt. Bösartige odontogene Tumoren sind recht selten und werden ähnlich benannt, je nachdem, ob die epitheliale oder mesenchymale oder beide Komponenten bösartig sind.
