Synopsis "Outcome of Different Modalities Treatment of Sigmoid Volvulus"
The treatment of sigmoid volvulus is a complex procedure. Many studies have shown that the outcome of laparoscopic intervention is better in case of early patient presentation. The currently accepted surgical procedures for sigmoid volvulus include resection with primary anastomosis or resection and Hartman procedure. Primary anastomosis is performed if the divided bowel ends are viable, peritoneal contamination is not evident, and the patient is hemodynamically stable. The other methods are Paul-Mikulicz procedure, sigmoidopexy, mesosigmoidoplasty, extraperitonealization of sigmoid colon, mesenteropexy, laparoscopic fixation and percutaneous endoscopic colopexy usingcolonscopy. The aim of this study is to determine the various outcome of various methods sigmoid volvulus and to search for a relatively safe, easy and economic protocol which can be adopted in Bangladesh.
