Synopsis "Payback!"
Payback! This book is unusual in that the protagonist must decide whether to become the antagonist. The book begins with Eric Esor laying in wait in a forested area. He waits for the rapist of his daughter to exit a cathedral. His mind wanders over the life that has brought him to this point. The reader will come to know Eric Esor very well; from his childhood, through his military experience as a criminal investigator in the United States Army, his growth as a law enforcement professional, his work in the community, and to a serious injury that robbed him of his career and forced him to another. We meet his family and his adopted daughter, Briana, who is the victim of a forcible rape. For reasons that will be explained, traditional law enforcement is stopped in its tracks. Eric's investigative work requires tainting evidence which is then useless in a court of law. Eric begins with no information and, over a period of two years, uses his skills as an investigator. He begins knowing nothing. Ultimately he has a description, then an agenda, then a name, then an address. Ultimately he knows his prey well enough that he is able to be in a place before the rapist arrives. Eric also prepares his mind and body for the possibility of Payback! Can he do it? Can he do it quietly and alone? Could he return to his former way of life or would he be forever changed? As it says in Ecclesiastes, is there a time to kill?
