Synopsis "Pupak and the Great Fish"
A beautiful retelling of Jonah and Whale from The Bible. Forcefully taken from his Amazon rainforest home, Pupak is faced with assisting the very Brazilian white men who slaughtered his village. But the gods are angry that he's running from his destiny and after superstitious sailors toss him to the sea in order to calm a ranging storm, he is swallowed by a great, metal beast the white men call a submarine. A - Based on the Book of Jonah, PUPAK AND THE GREAT FISH tells the fictional story of Pupak, a real-life native to the Amazonian rain forests and at the time of this story's publication was one of the last surviving members of the Akuntsu tribe. Some regard the Book of Jonah as a work of fiction. But whether the story is fiction or a true historical account, it beautifully illustrates how God's perspective of man's wrongdoing is far different than that of man. In this story, Pupak's tribe has largely been killed off by invasive efforts of Portuguese-speaking Brazilians and Pupak is forced to learn, as Jonah had, that despite his anger toward the Brazilians, revenge is not the answer.
