Synopsis "Rainfall recessions and rural water needs"
Daoukro is part of the former cocoa loop that has undergone considerable economic expansion. Rainfall recessions in recent decades have led to a strong migration of populations and the displacement of the cocoa loop to the Southwest. This drop in rainfall has also resulted in the drying up of the majority of surface water points and a significant drop in the piezometric level of the water table. The general objective of this study is the mapping of potential sites favourable to the establishment of future water points in the Daoukro region. The specific objective is to study the impact of climate variability on water resources in the region. The annual rainfall deficit varies between 3.2% and 13%, while the average annual flow of surface water courses shows an average deficit of 52%. The identification of the sites of future water points using the GIS and the multi-criteria analysis method made it possible to identify more than 150 sites favourable for the implementation of high-flow water boreholes for the water supply of the populations.
