Synopsis "Red Lodge and Its Connections Understanding the Past While Embracing the Future"
For many years The Red Lodge Community has been a gathering place for families in Amelia, Virginia. The history of the predominately African American Community extends back to the late 1700's when it was known as the Red Lodge Plantation. This is a story of families whose ancestors were owned by Major John Archer and his son Senator William S. Archer and neighboring slave owners. From the ancestors bondage of slavery, to later the fight of freedom and land ownership, the community of Red Lodge stands strong. This is the story of those who sacrificed what little they had to build churches, farms, and owned stores, later becoming the foundation of the community that is still present to this day. Down through the years, the name of the area has changed. Some call it Tyler's, others call it Archers Creek, but to those countless of African Americans who are the offspring of the forefathers of the land. We call it Red Lodge. There are many descendants from the Red Lodge Plantation, take a look inside you may find out that you are one of them.
