Is there such a thing as original sin? Why would an omnipotent God allow evil? Reflections is a refreshing examination of common spiritual questions by an ordinary man whose one aim was honesty. For instance, though he was a devout Anglican, the author saw no threat in acknowledging the commonalities between Christianity and Buddhism. The fact that the author never officially completed the soliloquys compiled here merely underlines the dialogical nature of his writing. Smith hopes that other men and women will take up where his friend left off and continue to discuss the spiritual questions raised in Reflections.
