Der folgende Text führt in Richard Rortys politikphilosophisches Hauptwerk Kontingenz, Ironie und Solidarität aus dem Jahr 1989 ein und kommentiert es Kapitel für Kapitel. Dabei geht es sowohl um die Zusammenhänge, die Rorty selber herstellt, als auch um jene, die sich in der politischen Philosophie anbieten. Rorty situiert seine liberale Utopie zwischen Habermas und Foucault. Doch er nimmt die politische Wende der postmodernen Philosophie noch nicht wahr, so dass er Perspektiven der Solidarität eher am Universalismus und am Kommunitarismus orientiert, von denen ihn jedoch sein Kontingenzbewusstsein trennt.
