Der SELLMO ist ein praktisches Instrument zur genaueren Beleuchtung der Lern- und Leistungsmotivation von Schülern und Studierenden. Der Test besteht aus einem Manual, 10 Fragebögen SELLMO-S, 10 Fragebögen SELLMO-ST, Schablone, 10 Auswertungsbögen SELLMO-S, 10 Auswertungsbogen SELLMO-ST und einer Mappe. Der SELLMO misst die Lern- und Leistungsmotivation durch die Erfassung von 4 verschiedenen Zielorientierungen, welche für einen entscheidenden Einfluss sorgen. Insgesamt messen 31 Items die Zielarten Lernziele, Annäherungs-Leistungsziele, Vermeidungs-Leistungsziele sowie die Arbeitsvermeidung.
