Synopsis "Sleep, Drugs & Alzheimer's Disease"

This book provides the rational for engaging a program to prevent the development of Alzheimer's disease. It addresses two prominent risk factors for the development of the disease. They are changes to improve one's sleep quality and avoid certain kinds of drugs. It features explicit directions for reducing the risks. The book is based in scientific research. First, there is research indicating that insomnia is a risk-factor for developing Alzheimer's disease. Second, there is an abundance of evidence that taking certain "sleeping pills" regularly, literally increases you chances of dying younger than you would otherwise. Third, there are nonpharmacological technics that are effective in overcoming insomnia and that can sustain a pattern of daily or near daily healthy sleep. The book encourages any individual to take charge of their own problems inherent to not getting a good night's sleep. It surely does not encourage you to passively take "sleeping pills" with the false hope that they will do the work of treating insomnia. These pills produce unconsciousness, not a pattern of healthy sleep. When taken regularly these drugs produce the opposite of a healthy pattern of sleeping and have considerable risk of becoming addictive. And, worst of all, these commonly prescribed drugs increase the risk getting a wide array of mortal diseases (including such as serious infections and cancer). You can, by investing your own time and by doing your own program of treating your insomnia successfully overcome insomnia and, in so doing reduce a risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. You may need to invest some money, e.g., buy this book. It is a truly inexpensive way to learn about reducing insomnia. The book encourages individuals to apply that learning and develop life-long habits of daily, healthy, restorative sleep. Sleep we must! However, poor sleep need not be a fact of life. Good healthy sleep is achievable.
