Jay Cronley, a brilliant engineer working for a defense contractor in Newport, RI, has everything going for him: a patent on a new torpedo that's going to make him rich, a lovely and loving fiancée, an Ivy League education and an unlimited future. Things couldn't be better. But things are subject to change. And everything changes when Jay takes in a homeless woman and her 12-year-old daughter for a single night.
