Synopsis "Storm Story: Triumphant"
"They didn't know where their parents were, their town was unrecognizable, and they realized that they were all alone." James Baldini's suspenseful novella is set in an unnamed New Jersey town at the start of the epic storm of Hurricane Sandy in the winter of 2012. Kayla and Mike, a young brother and sister, must fend for themselves as a tree crashes through the roof of their house, badly injuring their mother, Martha. Husband Mike Sr. is out of town on a road trip, desperately trying to maneuver his way back home through clogged roads and police roadblocks. The story takes its two brave young characters through four unpredictable days of hell, as they manage to get their mother to a hospital, but are left behind when the hospital is evacuated. They at last find shelter at their old school, now a temporary community center-but are forced to leave, pursued by a trio of young thugs, on what becomes a life-changing journey of survival. They will have some unexpected help from octogenarian Mary, who survived the Great Depression as a child and can bake a mean apple pie, chop wood, and use a shotgun when it counts. Filled with local color, some disturbing images, and a tribute to the courage and grit of New Jerseyans at a time of crisis, "Storm Story: Triumphant" is a gripping story of survival and grace.
