In Shukala-Yajur-Veda, Purusa medha adhyaya, Atisthula is mentioned as one of the eight types of variform men. Medoroga and Prameha are the diseases caused by Santarpana (over hydration & Over eating). Atisthaulya or Medoroga is considered as one of censurable personalities, also as 'Nanatamaja' disease of Kapha, dushitamedoja roga. The role of bijasvabhava or genetic abnormality in pathogenesis of Medo-roga is stated by Charakacharya. Prameha is also described as one of the complications of Atisthaulya as well as a separate entity. Charaka has stated eight fold disabilities: 1. Ayushorhasa (shortening of lifespan),2. Javoparadha (swiftness in movement),3. Kricchavyavaya (difficulty in sexual intercourse), 4. Daurbalyam (weakness), 5. Swedabadha (excessive sweating and its unpleasant effects), 6. Daurgandhya (bad odour), 7. Kshudhatimatrama (increased appetite), 8. Pipasatiyoga (excessive thirst). Susruta has mentioned the upadravas(Complications)- 1. Prameha (Urinary disorders), 2. Prameha pidika (carbuncles), 3. Jwara (fever), 4. Bhagandara (fistula-in-ano), 5. Vidradhi (Abscess), 6. Vāta vikara (various vatic disorders). Chikitsa is apatarpana.
