Synopsis "Tarnished Angel"
The death of a baby in 1885 is the turning point for the reverend Andrew George. Travelling to America in search of a new life he becomes friends with the family of Thomas and Eleanor Cummings. New York is the parting of the ways, Thomas, a miner, to Pennsylvania, himself to a farm in Virginia, where he deals with hypocrisy, Racism and the death of a bride on her wedding day. Intending to relocate to Canada, he travels north visiting his friends on the way, only to find Thomas is dying. To keep a roof over their head he takes work in the mines, later returning to England to help Eleanor get her family back home to Durham. Events back in England lead him first into destitution and later to riches, which he uses to improve the lives of the unfortunates he meets on his life journey.
