Synopsis "The application of Discriminant Analysis to misclassification of Students in Upper Basic Classes into Senior Secondary School (SSS) Classes"
The recent fall in Nigeria's educational system is well traced to the poor classification of student into various departments at senior secondary class level. However, some students are well classified while others are wrongly classified.Taking Yewa College, Ilaro Ogun State as a case study, we were able to collect secondary data based on the scores of students in 12 subjects after their JSS classes, students of JSS3 in the year 2007 were taken who presently are in SSS3 in the year 2012. Discriminant analysis was used on the classification of students into the three major departments.Analysis was carried out using SPSS and the result obtained was that 60.7% of the students were rightly classified based on the discriminant function. Graphical presentation reviews the classification of student into science, commercial and art department and our result shows that more than half of the populations are well classified.
