Synopsis "The Capable Child"

Jeanne Marie Dingle O'Connell was raised by a divorced mother and beloved grandparents on a farm just outside of the small river and tourist town of Berger, Missouri. Jeanne loved the town of Berger and her life there, but left to attend college where she met and married Jake O'Connell, an adjunct math professor who is almost ten years her senior. Jeanne and Jake established a new life together in the St. Louis area, where he accepted a faculty position at a state university and Jeanne became a successful commercial website designer. Six years and three children later, Jake asked Jeanne for a divorce - seemingly out of the blue. Jeanne was doubly devastated when she discovered a terrible secret that caused her to re-evaluate her life with her husband and her outlook on men in general. She returned to Berger (ten years after she left) as a divorced single parent. Jeanne purchased the Berger property and farm house she grew up in, and began to create a new life for herself and her children. But there were still some undiscovered ghosts in Jeanne's closet. Her friendship with Sean McAdams, the young man who manages her farm property and owns a small business in Berger help her and her children heal emotionally and adjust to their new life. But there are still some obstacles she must overcome before she can fully embrace life again. This is the last story in the Berger trilogy: tales that focus on three women of different ages who return to the small town of Berger, a place they think of as home, to try and reconnect with their extended families - and the kind of loving support only a family can give.
