Synopsis "The Empire Within"
K. Jamal Jones is a rising Coach, Writer, and Speaker. His journey as a Motivational Speaker began in 2005. K. Jamal has ALWAYS had a passion for helping people reach their maximum potential, whether it was on the basketball court or off. K. Jamal grew up in the rough inner-city community of East New York, which is a section of Brooklyn, New York.K was born and raised in Louis H. Pink Houses. He overcame the obstacles of living in an inner city filled with drugs, poverty, gang affiliations and violence. Raised by his single mom, grandmother and aunt, K had one thing on his mind: "Get my family out of the hood." From an early age K used sports as a distraction from the danger he was surrounded by. His focus and his skill set was so intense that his entire neighborhood rallied behind him to keep him "safe" while he chased his dreams. In 1998, K helped lead his high school basketball team to a New York City Basketball Championship. K also helped lead his College Basketball team to a Pacific Coast Conference First Place finish in 1999/2000. He has served as a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Council for 3 years. He played for the world renown Harlem Wizards Basketball team. He served as a Minister in training and a volunteer staff member with YoungLife from 2008-2013. During the years of 2008-2013, K also served as a chaplain at The Children's Village, a residential treatment facility for at risk youth. In 2013 K. Jamal went on to co-found a non-profit organization called The Exodus 100. With the Exodus 100 he taught boys ages 8-18 general life skills and job readiness. K. Jamal started his speaking career on the suggestion of a trusted mentor. In the beginning crowds were in the single digits. During his first speech, there were only 5 people in the audience. As time went on K began to increase his skill set and aptitude for connecting to the audience in his own unique way. He would use personal stories, movie references, sports analogies and hip-hop songs to paint mental images that would draw his audiences in. He would use spoken word poems that would break the monotony of a serious speech and turn it into something easier to receive. The audiences began to grow from tens to hundreds to thousands of people. K. Jamal has been fortunate to address urban educators, collegiate athletic programs, inner city youth and development agencies, juvenile detention facilities, correctional facilities, world renown non-profit organizations, churches and small businesses. His simple approach to seemingly insurmountable obstacles left his audiences with a blueprint to become peak performers in their field.
