Synopsis "The evolution and role of traditional dance in promoting peace & unity"
This book explores the role traditional dance, Intore in promoting peace and unity. The research was conducted mainly in Kigali city with Intore dance as the case study. The study further revealed that the Intore dance is performed throughout the four provinces the Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern Province by all the three ethnic groups and has drastically evolved in the performance context, costuming, instrumentation via songs, drumming and props, among others. For instance, the Intore dance used to be performed only before the king by warriors going for war or returning from war but it is now performed on several occasions such as political rallies, independence celebrations, and social functions schools and dance troupes festivals as well as ritual celebrations. This is worth reading to understand how dance can be a tool for reconciliation in any situation. Details with the photograph that illustrates the reconciliation and evolution are inside the book.
