Synopsis "The Faerie Knot"

Kidnapped by the Cailleach Bheur, Celtic Goddess of Winter, Mairi is without the aid of her friends as the earth sinks into a darkness brought on by the materialism of humans. Mairi must search deep within herself to find out if she has the power to help save mankind from the angry Dark Faeries as much as from the greed of humans, as she wonders if it might be better to set aside her Druidic ancestry and live in blissful oblivion like all the "normal" people. This is the third book in the Celtic Magic four book series, which centers on 15-year-old, Mairi, who was a typical modern teen growing up surfing in San Diego and camping in Baja until her dad died, turning her life upside down. In the first book, The Trinity Knot, she and her younger brother are sent to live in the rural mountains of Northern California with their maternal grandfather they've barely met because their mother can't handle her grief. A forbidden necklace leads them to discover they are from a long line of druids and that the Celtic fairy tales told in their childhood are actually their family heritage. This leads them on an adventure that includes time travel, battling druids, and journeying through the Faerie Realm to meet the Light Faeries. In the second book, The Witch's Knot, Mairi befriends a spirit cat, Ka, and discovers that witches are also real. In an effort to prove that her dad did not die, but was actually a changeling, she follows Ka back into the Faerie Realm and discovers that Dark Faeries are now in charge, and are much more dangerous than their counterpart. With a splash of history and authentic Celtic tales told for hundreds of years to generation after generation, this series straddles both modern and ancient times. This coming of age novel is perfect for anyone curious about his or her own Celtic connections. While this is a YA novel with teen characters, it safely appeals to ages 9-99 with family friendly content. This is H. R. Conklin's third book. She grew up in the rural mountains of Northern California where her mother gardened and her father played the bagpipes, as well as spending long hours in the theater where her parents were a dancer and an actor, which undoubtedly led to her overactive imagination and love for nature. She currently lives in San Diego with her husband, two children and three dogs. She formerly taught kindergarten at a public Waldorf charter school in which she told many fairy tales to the children, and made up stories in her spare time. Connect with H. R.
