Synopsis "The Holy Man"
The novel, The Holy Man, is composed of twelve linking stories that take place in the Philippines. Paul Moret, a widower, and Reverend Ike Blakey, a bachelor, decide to travel to the Philippines in search of that illusory ideal: the perfect woman. During their travels, they will encounter an assortment of diverse characters, among them witches, voodoos, and a holy man who submits to a crucifixion every Good Friday. In addition to the novel, included are three short stories, one about an illegal Filipino living underground in the U.S. another about a beauty contestant who worries about losing face, and a story about haves and have-nots, and how the former control and oppress the latter.
