In this dramatization of actual events, Dr. Goldberger's wife recounts the extraordinary steps her husband takes to prove the deadly disease pellagra is not contagious but a preventable dietary condition. His dedication to his mission that requires long absences from their home strain the seams of their marriage. Still, he perseveres, counting on controversial experiments on prisoners and other volunteers to shed light on the truth. But time is running out.
