Synopsis "The James and Mary S. Daugherty Family of Alabama: They Went To Texas"

James Daugherty and Mary Stanford/Standiford were married in North Carolina in 1783. There has been no well-referenced presentation of their movements after the marriage. From the few documents available, it appears that they were possibly from South Carolina and lived there until about 1810 when they appeared in the Northern part of the Mississippi Territory, which later became the state of Alabama. An attempt has been made to establish proofs for the reasoning behind the previous statement. James and Mary had at least eight children, named in the 1839 Petition for Sale or Division of land owned by James Daugherty in Greenville, South Carolina. Each child will be treated separately, with as much proof as it is possible to gather. This first volume discusses James Daugherty and Mary Stanford/Standiford, and includes documents that were available for the researcher. The rest of the book will be about the first child of James and Mary, Sarah who married Thomas Lynch. The other children will be discussed in forthcoming books. There are some families that are more prominent in this book than others. Surnames with more than 10 individuals listed are: Chambers, Humphrey/Humphreys, Irwin, and Lynch.
