Synopsis "The Memorable Season"

Sam Pennington is a former major leaguer who, at age seventy-two, retains the body of a forty-year-old. Sadly, Sam's mind has not kept pace with his body. As his memory begins to slip, his fate rests in the hands of his son, Jim, and Jim's wife Lois. Sam and Jim have had their disagreements over the years, most notably due to GSG. Jim jokingly refers to the "Generation Skipping Gene" a syndrome limiting his ability to play the sport his father loved. Jim was just never good enough to make it as a major league baseball player, but now, his son, Josh, has begun a promising career with Oakland A's. With time running down, Sam and Jim need to patch up their differences and hopefully spend Sam's golden years watching Josh become a star outfielder. This book speaks to the struggle of caring for an aging parent with compassion and dignity while embracing the beauty of sports and family. Jim and Sam come to realize, through the generational magic of baseball, it's really how you play the game that counts.
