Synopsis "The NICHE: Inventor's Wanted"
"Inventors Wanted" is the headline of a small ad. The ad claims that the National Invention Center will help inventors make their dreams come true. What it doesn't say is dreams can become nightmares.The story begins in New Orleans where we meet Jim Marris, a talented graphic designer/accountexecutive who works for a hot advertising agency, Lamar-Sutton. Marris lives over a florist shop onSt. Charles Avenue with his girlfriend Berni, a reporter for the "New Orleans Times." Marris and his best friend Tim Quan are co-inventors of what they call the "Forecaster," a computer program that predicts the future of stocks, bonds, and international currencies. But at the moment, it only forecasts downturns, but it still promises to be a nemesis for those touched by the markets. And with a little time, the upturns will be plotted, as well. When Marris and his computer guru friend Tim Quan submit their idea to the National Invention Center in Washington DC, the hair-raising adventure begins. And this isn't the first time the Center has been a watchdog for a threatened industry. This just happens to be the biggest one. With a stake in the "Forecaster," John McMillan, president of the multi-billion-dollar company, NetWare, hires Marris to design his company's corporate identity. McMillan takes Marris under his wing. The plot twists and turns from city to city and country to country. While in Tokyo, Marris is seduced by the beautiful Mino Kizuchi, head of the R&D Division of Nakamori Industries' SigmaCorp. The action keeps building until the surprise ending is truly a surprise.
