Synopsis "The Orchid Garden: A Kat Shahar Mystery"
When Kat Shahar, widow of an Israeli war hero, flew home to Kansas for the funeral of her favorite aunt, she discovers a clever murder and a curse hidden in her father's obsession with dreams. While investigating her aunt's death, Kat meets two men whose interest in her is not limited to her search for the truth. At the center of all this is her Chinese not-quite-cousin, Lei Ling, whose hand drawn pictures are credited with minor miracles in the countryside around her home village. Kat flies to China to meet Patrick Chen, who was hired by her aunt to find Lei Ling. Instead he finds a deepening fascination with Kat who is just beginning to return his feelings when he disappears. They are re-united in the Orchid Garden where Kat's investigation ends violently, and she is forced to leave China immediately. She return to Kansas only to discover her even her own family is not what she supposed.
