Synopsis "The Other Wife: 17 Years As A Polygomist"

I opened the door to a very persistent knocking and saw a female police officer standing on my porch. In great astonishment I asked, "May I help you?" The officer said, "I am looking for Joan Norman. I have a warrant for her arrest. Are you Joan?" Not being familiar with situations like this, and with great unawareness I answered, "Yes, who is pressing these charges?" "Your father," the officer said. I felt the emotions rising within me, choking off anything I could say. Tears were blurring my vision, and I felt paralyzed for the moment. Controlling my emotions, I then asked the officer, "What am I being arrested for?" The officer replied, "Being an unfit mother." She continued by saying, "I also need to take the children to the Department of Human and Social Services, as they are being taken away from you." I said, "I will not take the warrant nor let you in." The officer asked, "Can I come in and make a phone call for backup?" By this time I was very nervous, wondering what in the world I was going to do. If I let the police officer come into the house I would be arrested, but did I have the legal right to not let her in? The fear was building up inside of me to the point that I could hardly think. My head was spinning. Looking at the officer I said, "I cannot let you in." The officer went back to her car. My mind was racing trying to think of what I could do. There was no way I was going to have my four boys taken from me, let alone be arrested!
