Synopsis "The Pinocchio Plague"

Johnny Evans, a young boy dying from leukaemia is given a wish by a supreme universal power to make the world a better place. He wishes that people who tell lies noses will grow like Pinocchio's. His wish granted and life extended, he finds himself in a world affected by the phenomenon of a plague of big noses; also finding that he has the power to shrink them. Bringing him to the attention of a powerful political figure, Lucian Lescott, who seeks to exploit the boy and turn him into a Messianic figure. Much to the consternation of Johnny's doctor, Susan Sherwood, who, seeing through the man from the ministry, attempts to hinder his plans. Although this book is mainly aimed at teens, because this story is set in an alternative world, and many of the characters portrayed may seem strangely familiar to our own, it can be enjoyed by all.
