Synopsis "The Pocket Book Mystery"
It is early summer in 1812 and an English country estate seems the ideal place to enjoy it. But all is not well at Oaklea, the ancestral home of the Seegrams. James Seegram, 6th earl of Carmaine, stands accused of the murder of the 5th earl, his father. With the support of his siblings and Hugh Filbert, his brother Arthur's best friend, he hopes to clear his name and to find out what really happened to their father. The clues to the mystery are kept in the late Lord Carmaine's pocket book, which his widow has in safe keeping. The secret of the location follows her to the grave. Time is running out. Soon it becomes apparent that their mother did not die of natural causes, either. The entire family are the target of someone out to destroy them: their reputation, their future, their lives. Even Hugh Filbert is not exempt from the danger, and he is determined not to desert their ranks, not only in the name of friendship but for the love of Seegram's sister Anna. Much has to happen, if there is to be any hope of a happy ending. They may be prepared to fight for their lives, but learning that their parents' marriage was not legitimate is a different matter. How can you defend your good name, when it turns out you don't have one?
