Synopsis "The Prison and The Universe"
On Christmas Day 2008, I caused a fatal car accident in which a young woman was tragically killed. The accident happened in the UK where I was visiting from my home in California. Seven months after the accident, I was imprisoned in Her Majesty's Prison, Nottingham. My cell-mate was a 300lb ex-weightlifter with a history of mental illness and violence. However, the process that I had gone through between the accident and being imprisoned was so profound that I accepted this situation as normal. Written as a series of short-stories, this book is about my experience in the surreal world of prison; the people that I met, and what I learned. It touches on a number of subjects that affect us all. For example, how everyone, no matter who they are or what they have done, thinks they are normal; and also how, even at the worst of times, the Universe is at work to help us learn, survive and triumph over adversity. It was a difficult process for me to write this book and a more difficult one to decide to publish it. My decision to publish the book came after meeting another person who was facing time in prison. This meeting helped me realize that there are lessons in this book that are worthy of sharing and, if you decide to read this book, I hope that you find both meaning and enjoyment in these stories.
