Micro finance has proved to be an effective tool for women empowerment. Microfinance includes micro credit, micro insurance and micro pension, etc. Micro credit is an extension of small loans to the poor to enable them to take up income generating activities. Microfinance addresses the shortage of fiscal capital amongst the poor and thus directly effects the creation of human capital for the poor. The main objectives of the microfinance are to develop institutional and financial self- sufficiency and to penetrate breadth and depth wise across the low income groups/ individuals profitably. Hence, there is a need for through investigation whether microfinance has really resulted in the empowerment of women in terms of economic, social and political dimensions. So the researcher would like to examine the role of micro finance in the development of women. The findings of the study may be useful to the policymakers to formulate best practices in terms of regulation and development of microfinance in our country.
