Synopsis "The Story Of Purim. The Book Esther: A Biblical Story Retold for Children"
Purim ist he happiest and liveliest holiday in the Jewish calendar, celebrating the rescue of the Jews in Persia at the time of King Xerxes (Hebrew: Ahasuerus) in 450 BC. By drawing a lot (Persian: Pur), evil Haman, a minister to the king, had decided on a day on which to wipe out the whole Jewish community in Persia at once. Nothing short of a miracle, the Jewish queen Esther was able to save her people from this horrible fate. This book retells this story; suitable for children yet close to the original book of Esther. Having fun when celebrating Purim is almost mandatory. Children as well as gron-ups wear costumes. The noise in the synagogue is almost unbearable when the story is read, as children use their rattles to boo Haman every time his name is mentioned. You offer food to each other, for example the delicious Chumantashen, a sweet pastry, loved by children and you invite each other to a big dinner.
