The world is at war. The Serpent Guild and the northern kingdoms are united while the south is divided between those allied with Daniel's Atlantan Guild and the nations allied with Aakadon. The changes in leadership within the city of the Aakacarns make an alliance between the Atlantan Guild and Aakadon possible, but not guaranteed now that blood has been shed on both sides. Cooperation between the two societies must happen in order to achieve victory and yet may not be enough to turn the tide of war. Tarin Conn is free from Daniel's spell and the ancient Maestro's appetite for power has grown. The Serpent Guild's teleportation raids increase and the spell-powered weapons given to their allies increase the destruction visited upon the southern kingdoms.
